Key activities
The Friends of the Vihara is effectively organised in several key sub-areas:-
Spiritual Development
The Friends of the Vihara volunteers help in various events organised by the Buddhist Maha Vihara, such as assisting in setting up the weekly dhamma talks, puja sessions, Kathina day, Wesak day, eight precepts and novitiate programmes. The tasks undertaken by the volunteers include setting up the place for the sessions, ensuring the materials required for the ceremony and speakers are in order, ensuring that devotees and sangha members are able to participate in comfort.
Compassion in Action
Compassion in Action focuses on activities in helping and contributing to the society at large without boundaries. Since the inception, Compassion in Action has organised Feeding the Needy programme on weekly basis, routine midnight distributions to the homeless within the Klang Valley and grocery distribution to the rural areas as well as visits to old folks home, refugee centres and shelter homes.
Fellowship
Fellowship focuses on activities to attract new volunteers, as we need continuous growth in volunteers to expand our outreach in serving the community. We organise Friends of the Vihara Day as a get to know you orientation to new volunteers, culinary gatherings, and fellowship trips for all volunteers to mingle and become friends. Twice a month, as part of the Fellowship through Service activities, volunteers get together to cook for the needy and at the same time get to know each other.
Seniors Club
The Seniors Club is as a platform for the seniors with similar objectives to come together whilst learning the Dhamma and contributing to the community at large. Through activities organized such as fellowship excursions, yoga classes, cooking for the needy, it provides opportunities for senior members to make new friends and to continuously contribute to the community.
Youth Group
Youth Group is a fellowship of young and vibrant Buddhists aged 18 to 30 years old. The youth group organizes a wide variety of fun activities to channel the youth's energy and enthusiasm in spiritual an community programmes
